Through Habitat Detroit, the GPPartners hold a monthly volunteer work day,
known as our Second Saturday Build Day. They are held ...you guessed it... on the
second Saturday each month. The worksite and type of construction work varies based on Habitat Detroit's work
and building schedule, rain or other inclement weather, and availability of
site foremen and trades leadership. Typically the worksites include TriCentennial
Village, Jane St., Habitat Detroit HQ, the Connor St. facility, or the ReStore.
Activities range from framing, flooring, siding, painting, landscaping, shed building,
and other finish work, plus hauling, marking, and sawing lumber and other materials.
Prior construction or handyman experience is welcome, though all skill levels are acceptable.
We aim for 12 volunteers each build day, and participation is not limited to the host church that month.
Review Habitat Detroit's generic Volunteer Pack
documents for participation details, the standard liability waiver
and a map to the TriCentennial Village (Core City) worksite. Starting in 2006, the minimum
age for participants on Second Saturday builds has been lowered to 16 years old.
