Volunteering for Habitat………

Volunteers are welcome. All skill levels are needed. Please choose one of the following options according to your situation:

Second Saturday Builds

Through Habitat Detroit, the GPPartners hold a monthly volunteer work day, known as our Second Saturday Build Day. They are held ...you guessed it... on the second Saturday each month. The worksite and type of construction work varies based on Habitat Detroit's work and building schedule, rain or other inclement weather, and availability of site foremen and trades leadership. Typically the worksites include TriCentennial Village, Jane St., Habitat Detroit HQ, the Connor St. facility, or the ReStore. Activities range from framing, flooring, siding, painting, landscaping, shed building, and other finish work, plus hauling, marking, and sawing lumber and other materials. Prior construction or handyman experience is welcome, though all skill levels are acceptable. We aim for 12 volunteers each build day, and participation is not limited to the host church that month. Review Habitat Detroit's generic Volunteer Pack documents for participation details, the standard liability waiver and a map to the TriCentennial Village (Core City) worksite. Starting in 2006, the minimum age for participants on Second Saturday builds has been lowered to 16 years old.

Parishoners of Member Churches

You will likely see periodic notices and updates regarding Habitat in your church bulletin, newsletter, or other parish communications. Please contact your church's GP Partners liason or your outreach coordinator and tell them you are interested in participating in Habitat projects. If you don't know your GP Partners liason, complete the inquiry form and someone will contact you.

Parishoners or Clergy of Other GP Churches

The GP Partners welcome the addition of other churches and faith-based organizations in the Pointes. Let your clergy know you'd like to add Habitat as an outreach activity. Start participating to help Habitat Detroit reach its goals by attending any GP Partners monthly planning meeting or a Second Saturday build. Complete the inquiry form indicating your interest in joining GP Partners and someone will contact you with meeting dates and locations.

Other Large Groups

The Second Saturday build events are scaled to accomodate twelve volunteers. If you have a group of 12 to 15 volunteers that would like to participate in a Habitat project, you should contact the Habitat Detroit Volunteer Director to discuss project options and schedule an event.
